BEING BESIDES MYSELF

BEING BESIDES MYSELF

CAMELIA ELIAS

This is a book of photographs and fragments. As a spell and as a talisman. In other words, a grimoire. Gelatin silver prints developed in the darkroom prompt reflections on sensuality and magic. It’s not only about what you hear, taste, smell, see, and touch. It’s about how you do it. But there’s no instruction. Who can teach others how to sense the world? The words and images in this book explore the dimension of eradicated time in the face of the sensual that’s fraught with anguish, unfulfilled desires, and a zest for life that only the immutable death can give us.

THREE EDITIONS

This book comes in three editions: an unlimited hardback and ebook editions and a limited talismanic edition that consists of the hardback book plus a gelatin silver print, that is, a genuine analog photograph featured in the book, processed by Camelia Elias from film to chemical emulsion on sensitive paper. The talisman edition is sold out. Get the other available editions here.

REVIEWS

I deeply enjoy this book. — ELVIRA STEIN, artist & graphic designer

I read Being Besides Myself in one sitting. This book didn’t let me go. It made me fall in love with myself from the first page. This is a wonderful work for all the fans of the Read Like the Devil teachings. Here I discovered a lyrical disclosure at the heart level of the secret source of where the Read like the Devil cartomancy courses and the related cartomancy books come from. I really liked the ‘structure’ of the book, which is more like the functions of a living being. This book is about optics. How you see, not what you see. It makes a very valuable distinction and clarification. — MIKE SAMASEN, cartomancer and artist
